Ms Louise Shum,
founder and instructor at the Macau Yoga Centre, graduated with outstanding
results from the famous and historic Kaivalaydhama Yoga Institute in India. She
was then appointed as the official Chinese translator for the Institute’s
publications and research reports.
Louise received
education and professional training at the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga
Institute operated by B.K.S. Iyengar, a national yoga master in India. It was
her honour to be personally awarded by Iyengar the qualification of a certified
Iyengar Yoga Teacher.
Ms Shum taught
yoga classes for the former Municipal Council before the establishment of the
IACM. She also hosts yoga courses for the Sports Development Institute, the
Public Administration and Civil Service Bureau, the Education and Youth Affairs
Bureau, and other organisations, with the aim of promoting yoga as a sport to
all levels of the community.
In 2002, Louise
founded the Macau Yoga Centre with the mission to train quality yoga
instructors, and she gradually developed yoga as a popular leisure sport for
Macau people today.
As a result of
Louise’s efforts, the Macau Yoga & Fitness Association was established in 2007
to provide training for yoga devotees and to promote yoga. The Association is
committed to enhancing yoga skills, facilitating exchange and enabling learners
to know more about yoga through interaction. It also encourages yoga devotees to
strengthen their bodies, purify their souls and relieve their stress from
family, society and work through practising yoga. Through years of relationship
building with yoga communities around the world, participants can exchange and
interact with people overseas via the association’s network.
The association
also established the Macau Yoga & Fitness Association Trust. This is a
charitable organisation with a mission to contribute to society and to sustain
the truth of sharing through yoga training.
